State of Unstable Equilibrium and the Ashes Scoreline

In Dead Poet’s Society, the Robin Williams’ character (John Keating) tells his students to seize the day (“Carpe diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary”). I wrote a guest post for ESPNcricinfo’s Cordon on the ability to seize the moments, moments that are in the state of unstable equilibrium, when a team that grabs it pretty much runs away with a Test match. I highlighted the few such moments that England had within their grasp only to be thwarted (mostly by Brad Haddin) and have now been pushed to the brink of another whitewash.
